I find myself agreeing with you every time you post. You're entirely right.

Frownland 07-08-2016 04:21 PM

306 people were shot and killed by police last year. 258 of those people were black. That's more than 80 percent. Compare that to the 12% chunk of the population that black Americans make up.

Ja, they're just overreacting.

Ya, you totally just justified the two most recent white cops murdering black dude incidents. Good job Roxy.

Talk about shameless deflection. Disgusting.

Do you have a source for that?

Whoops, I misread that source and I'm not even sure where I got that number from. It's out of 990, but black deaths at the hands of police officers are still a good 10% higher than their population segment. The white and the hispanic population (though there is potentially some differences between the self reported versus what the pathologist determines when it comes to hispanics) are on the same level as their population percentage. Still an alarming disparity.

Yeah was pretty sure it was wrong tbh.

Frownland 07-08-2016 05:04 PM

I remember doing the math and being like "goddamn, how have I not heard this number before?"

Thanks for making me double check.

It's called solidarity. People around the world join in when there are tragedies. When the I am charlie thing happened in Paris. People in NYC held vigils for it. Same thing with Orlando recently with the Pulse club massacre. People around the world joined in to show support. It happens all the time regardless of if it is happening in their neck of the words. It's called empathy and compassion. Guess you wouldn't know anything about that.

Hilarious from the number one sheeple alive. You know there are more whites and hispanics in this country than there are blacks right? So percentage-wise it is still a big deal. Also why can't the both be addressed? Why do you need to separate the two. Too hard to address all issues as once?

Even though the number was off slightly this point still stands.

Frownland 07-08-2016 05:17 PM

The actual number is 26% for anyone wondering how much "slightly" is :D.

Yeah, but theirs a pretty big difference when having a vigil vs having a protest. I'm all for solodarity, but protesting something that has nothing to do with the country your in is just dumb.

Dumb Brits, trying to call attention to an issue that's not even in their own country. I mean, who gives a **** about anywhere outside of a five mile radius of themselves?

Frownland 07-08-2016 05:44 PM

I mean, sure, if you want to ignore what protest aims to accomplish.

innerspaceboy 07-08-2016 07:38 PM

Another twist to the matter, this thrown in by NPR a few hours ago -

In An Apparent First, Police Used A Robot To Kill

Excerpt: After sniper fire struck 12 police officers at a rally in downtown Dallas, killing five, police cornered a single suspect in a parking garage. After a prolonged exchange of gunfire and a five-hour-long standoff, police made what experts say was an unprecedented decision: to send in a police robot, jury-rigged with a bomb.

Frownland 07-08-2016 07:43 PM

I remember hearing about that bit on the way home from work, then I just assumed that we had already been doing that for a long time .

innerspaceboy 07-08-2016 07:45 PM

Paul Verhoeven is going to have a field day with this.

Thank you for your incisive commentary.

For people interested in the statistics regarding people killed by cops I already provided a live updating link:

Na it's a bandwagon. I can understand people in America protesting but not London. They were holding signs up saying 'hands up don't shoot' and 'am I next?', I am sorry but police are not going to shoot you in England. I would be surprised if there has been a single black person shot by the police here in the past year.

It it nothing to do with us, it is the equivalent of a march in Minnesota about the result of the Brexit vote mate.

Zhanteimi 07-09-2016 06:18 PM

Here comes martial law!

Congratulations, idiots!

DeadChannel 07-09-2016 07:09 PM

On one hand, I think something like this was bound to happen eventually. These tensions have gone on far too long, with too many bad cops going unpunished and too many innocent people getting shot.

On the other hand, five probably uninvolved people are dead, and as a result I think we can expect retribution etc. from the cops. They're certainly going to be on edge for a long time now, and imo that really only exasterbates the problem.

The root problem, whatever that may be, still hasn't been dealt with, and until it is I'm really afraid of the direction that things will go from here.

Okay, yeah I see that point.

Also people that constantly spew about not all cops are bad. Where the fuck are the good ones when the bad ones are doing shit? Where are all the good ones when after they found out that the bad ones did shit stand out against them?

Nowhere to be fucking found that's where. The only cops I really like are IA.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 07-09-2016 08:57 PM

Try them. I'll apologize in advance for any damange done to your stomach, but they're delicious.
