Not to be insensitive or inflammatory, but I'd just like to point out that, at least for myself and my immediate unbelieving friends, the manner in which "rational" Christians view the "crazy" rapture-predicting Christians as credulous nutjobs is the same manner in which us nonbelievers view "rational" Christians... all the time.

I think the disparity exists between Christians taking to heart the parts of the Bible that say "he will come like a thief in the night", and this other guy totally acting like he knows when your shit will be stolen.

Christian: "Pshhh... you false, bro... Jesus is too skilled a thief for you to know when he'll climb up in your windows."
