that's not even realistic

sure it's their choice and laws do change but to pay those hefty fines constantly doesn't seem like something loads of people are willing to do or even have the means to do financially

They can protest through wearing burka's to show they will not accept the law. There are many options. You just need to think outside the square.

you are right I am being a bit close minded with this and I shouldn't be.

I'm part of a community group that does protests frequently and do they have options to do that as well but it's going to be an uphill battle and it's not going to change over night and in the mean time they will have to pay those hefty fines.

Everybody seems preoccupied with what action the muslims should take. Isn't this a thread about wether it's right or not to ban burkas?

Almost everyone here agrees that it's wrong to ban burkas so we decided to move on with the discussion because conversations tend to flow off of opinions that are mentioned.

My impression is that quite a few propose the "leave if you don't like it"-option which implies that the french government can do whatever they like as far as they are concerned. Thus it doesn't seem that clear that everyone thoroughly agrees upon that it's wrong. And that's even without consulting the issue of religious oppression which some like to bring to the table as well.

Just for the record: What do I think the muslism should do? Civil disobedience as far as it's possible.

I can't speak for others but if you have read some of my earlier posts in this thread I do think it's wrong but at the same time I just offered the suggestion of leaving not because as in "leave if you don't like it". Leave to protect their religious integrity. They are going to be persecuted for wearing the burkas and will be forced to pay a fine which some have already had to.

Yeah, you think it's wrong, and so do I, but there were other posts that at least insinuate that it isn't.

As for the call to action: I fully support those who choose to leave, it's their choice and may as well be the most rational thing to do given the circumstances. But I also fully support those who choose to disobey the law as it's a completely victim-less crime (no UFO scenarios here please) and thus they have the right to defend themselves toward those who enforce violence upon them for not obeying that particular law.
