Japan 8.9 Earthquake
Mother of God. Japan has just had the worst earthquake ever recorded there, and a huge tsunami has hit too. The footage on TV is beyond terrible.
We have a tsunami warning in New Zealand so hopefully that will be alright but ugh. I am so upset again, I have to go down to Christchurch again to pack up my stuff and the day we are going down is the 20th when a scientist has predicted another huge one to hit there. I don't know how much more I'm going to be able to live through.

A 4-metre tsunami washed away cars and tore away buildings along Japan's eastern coast near the epicentre after the earthquake hit at 2.46pm (6.46pm NZT). There were reports of injuries in Tokyo.
Officials were trying to assess damage, injuries and deaths from the quake but had no immediate details. The quake that struck was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks, including a 7.4-magnitude one about 30 minutes later. The US Geological Survey upgraded the strength of the first quake to a magnitude 8.9, while Japan's meteorological agency measured it at 7.9. The meteorological agency issued a tsunami warning for the entire Pacific coast of Japan. NHK was warning those near the coast to get to safer ground. The quake struck at a depth of 10km, about 125km off the eastern coast, the agency said. The area is 380km northeast of Tokyo. In downtown Tokyo, large buildings shook violently and workers poured into the street for safety, and TV footage showed fires across the city in buildings and at an oil refinery. A video where you can see the tsunami sweeping up entire houses which stay on fire as they move.

He's a weather scientist isn't he? But your right it could be total bollocks, I just wish I wasn't going down that day to pick up my gear.

Hawaii is going to be in trouble soon from a Tsunami that's a result of this earthquake
weather predictions tend to be off though the further away you are from it time ways the more it has time to change and go in a different direction from predicted. If I were you I wouldn't invest too much time/faith in his predictions.

I was going to post this, but you beat me to it. Apparently this earthquake is the fifth strongest earthquake recorded since 1900. Islands around it, like Vanilla said, are bracing for a possible tsunami. The west coast of the US are also in a tsunami warning, and Hawaiian citizens are evacuating the coasts. I feel so bad for those poor people...
