my aussie friend was under the impression that mostly only city buildings were wrecked but I was trying to tell her I think the suburbs got hit pretty bad as well.

I have just found out I'll not be allowed back to my flat (or I might get arrested) which is right in the city center. Luckily I got in yesterday and filled bags up and now I'm at the airport about to fly to Auckland. I am so exhausted!!! The swelling on my leg has gotten bigger so going to need to ice it like a mother ****er when I get there. xxx

Are you going to have to rebuild the place? And was it your own or did you rent it?

It's probably dangerous to go back there. Glad you were able to get some stuff. It seems like an awful idea not to be allowed to take anything with you

I think it's for safety reasons just in case other falling debris is still coming down.

I understand their reasoning behind it.

So do I, as I said.
But it's still awful.

I don't take it as being an awful thing. Your life is worth more than material possessions that can be replaced.

Ah, well obviously it isn't worth risking your life, but it still seems awful to me to leave your house and all your possessions behind.

We can agree to disagree because I see that you get attached to worldly possessions but not me.

I guess I'm used to losing things that I like over the years when I was growing up and having to constantly move.
