the jobs with the most disparity are sales related jobs which i can understand. i think men are more likely to have skills that relate to sales. those skills bein assertiveness, bull****ting, intimidation, etc. men tend to have much more charisma in my opinion not sure why there would be such a $$$ difference in surgeons or doctors. like the article says though women are choosing more entry/lower level jobs within hospitals. i also wonder if tenure is considered in any of these stats. obviously someone bein there 10 yrs is prob makin more than someone there for 1 yr. plus i do think men are generally better at negotiatin which im sure contributes a small amount. that men would be able to negotiate a higher salary. but with all stats like this regarding gender or race theres a big time disconnect between huge sample sizes and individual instances. its like when i argue with ppl about racial stuff... the other side of the argument is always 'the system failed so and so' or 'they have bad schools and the government doesnt care about their community, etc'. or minorities and women are under represented in certain job markets or areas... well ok, get to the individual level. theres 10 ppl applyin for the job and 7 are white males. is it their fault they went to college and got a good degree and worked hard to get where they are at?? im gonna go way off track here so i will just stop now but a small part of the reason i hate feminism is cause i see it as a way to casually dismiss the accomplishments of white straight men and on some levels make the weak minded white men feel guilty of their success. its a small part of my hate but its there none the less |

I liked that video, Briks. It reminds me of something similar except it was set in a world where homosexuality was the norm and there was a suburban family who had a straight child who got bullied. Great short, also on youtube. Wish I could remember the name.
Butthead, you're disgusting.

When people talk about privilege they mean to bring up the very obvious advantage straight white men have in most first world countries, ESPECIALLY if they're from well-off socioeconomic backgrounds. You cannot deny that a straight white man who grew up in the safety of the suburbs with a well-off and well-adjusted family has an advantage over an at-risk minority living on the skids, exposed to anything and everything from gang violence, abuse, drugs, etc. Kinda goes without saying but it's been proven that exposure to those kinds of things has a negative impact on a person's mental state. IMO, fortunately, I think to an extent it's really more the socioeconomic background and having a decent upbringing than it is the race. But then, I've lived my entire life in San Francisco. We don't do bigotry here. Obviously some people manage to overcome the odds and make a decent living for themselves but most don't. That's the most worthwhile point anyone is making. It seems to me you'd rather take the easy route and stay in your own world, refusing to make the effort to empathize or make a difference.
