I'm ok. When I feel ****ty I just feel really ****ty. Most of the time I'm just pretty lonely, which is weird because I'm always around people that are kind to me but I'm starting to feel like those people only care about me when it's convenient for them.

You're welcome.
If he was you I would have made a point to kill myself ages ago.

Taking medication only covers up some of it, makes it easier to deal with. I've had more problems dealing with my emotions on medication, or when I'm withdrawing from it.

that's similar to what most people have told me. that or that the side effects aren't worth it. but maybe it's not the same for everyone and every medication. according to the guy in question, he had to try several different meds unsuccessfully and was being helped by professionals before they found the right chemical to help him. he said it had side effects at first but after a while they went away.

My dad relied on anti-depressants for almost all of my life. Last year, he kicked them. The change in him was incredible. He's not quite as easy to live with, but he lost weight and became much more motivated. Might have had something to do with my parents splitting up as well.

It's this. Some meds can be taken with other meds that counter side-effects too. But yeah, basically the problem is that depression is an umbrella term for a lot of different pathological states and we don't understand them all well and people already have variations in physiology that makes finding a drug program harder. As you noted, drugs have to be tried on a case by case basis by the psychiatrist as they closely monitor the patient, until something (hopefully) works. Some people never find a drug program that works for them. But for others, it can be a quality-of-life saver.
