I am one of 5 siblings and we all dabbled in drug taking at one time or another. Our 2nd eldest brother who was the brightest of the bunch sailed through school with excellent exam results. At that time he was smoking weed. In his first year at uni he got into a heap of other drugs and ended up in a psychiatric unit suffering from "psychosis". It was a scary time for him and also for the whole family as we were so worried about him. Unfortunately he has since been diagnosed with schizophrenia which is a severe mental illness. The whole family is very protective toward him. He takes daily medication and copes OK. He still has a great sense of humour and now works in a music store and has wonderful support from his friends BUT outside of his friends and family, there is indeed a huge negative stigma attached to mental illness. He has never contemplated suicide but has lost three friends to suicide in the past 6 years.

theres just a lot of tricky things wth mental health

there are a lot of ppl who use it as a way to gain pity from others (like ive said many times, ppl loooove bein victims). theres a lot of ppl who use their diagnoses to excuse their rude behavior too.

theres ppl who forget that ppl with mental health issues can still be jerks. plus its just such a broad term. mh/mr... a lot of different levels of mental health imo. i wouldnt ever associate anyone postin on a message board as mental health when i hear the words 'mentally ill' or a variation. maybe its my occupational stuff but to me mentally ill means 10x worse than anyone who can post on a forum

ive typed enough already and i will probably save a rant about all of the 'i blame the system!' idiots for my journal

Like any physical illness there are also varying degrees of mental illness - some not so serious and treatable and some very serious and chronic.

i know thats my point, some ppl liek to exagerate their 'mental illness' or just throw it out there for pity or whatever

a lot of times its just given a name to a set of baheviors and not a real mh diagnoses.

True. Some people are attention seekers and hypochondriacs
