19 People Dead at German Love Festival
Officials explain little on German festival stampede
this absolutely crazy....how the hell could the promoters of this actually within sane mind make it to where they planed on packing over one million people into a small space with only one exit/entrance...and thats an access tunnel :soapbox: |
Love Parade is the name of the festival. I saw a video where they were helping people up and saw them carrying the dead and trying to resuscitate some of the people who were still alive. Such a horrible accident
R.I.P. |
What were they stampeding for?
|
I still haven't been able to find out.
EDIT: I just found this: Quote:

19 people climbed up a stairway and they all couldn't navigate it? This is getting weirder.
I can understand surging, crazy Germans, as they really like their techno and I've personally seen how packed and crazy it gets at their raves. (Timewarp 2005, Mannheim Germany) But what the hell? |
19 people.. in a crowd over a million all climbing up a narrow stairway. It's hard to think that only 19 people died
EDIT: It's up to 20 with 511 injured |

Seems even easier not to fall if you've got over a million people in a narrow stairway... |
That's really fucked up. :(

What happened was the festival was overcrowded and the only exit/entrance was through a railway tunnel.
As people were being turned away from the festival more people tried to get in causing a huge crush at the gates. The only way to avoid being crushed was to climb up a high wall or climb up these steep stairs. Because of the sheer number of people trying to get up these stairs some people fell off. I didn't see the stairs on the news report but the walls surrounding this tunnel looked at least 20/30 feet high. |

I try making it subtle all the time, but some guys just make you say it. |
this may sound stupid, but who was scheduled to play at this festival?

I ruined your Nazi joke by making a Nazi joke that that got ruined by your clarification of your Nazi joke. This is way more complicated than in the 30's/40's. |

Alright look. It was a joke in poor taste. I tried to lighten the mood. Sorry, everybody. Also, where did you get "nazi's?" from? |

I was making a nazi joke. You weren't? Man, we need to call in Britain... |
the title was worded that way to lighten a serious incident....thanks for noticing :)
i don't know a lot about this festival but i have a friend....who is a bit more into electronic music and is in Europe who told me thats it's actually quite large and well attended...soooo you would think that a bit more planning would have gone into this....it just looks like these people were forced into such a small area with very little means of escape....personally i get a little freaked out in larger crowds as it is....but to herded into a small space like that.....it looks like shooting a school of fish in a bucket sad to hear that more have dies over this blatant stupidity....i know when i read this last night it was 19 dead and only 300 injured |

(I guess you were being sarcastic, but just in case you weren't.) Anyway, yea it was definitely a big mistake on part of the organizers and from what I've read, they won't be having it again. At least not in the same place or as the same name. It's just sad that it took something like that for them to suddenly realize the danger... I love stereotyping, so I'll do it now... German engineering is supposed to be best.. you'd think some experienced event planners and organizers would have had some sort of backup plan or safety net considering the large amounts of people the festival drew every time. The festival was not a new thing. |

EDIT: ATB has composed a song in remembrance.. I'm not sure if anyone else will jump on board but I think there's a good chance. |
