This bothers me. Why is it that Liberals always assume those on the other side of a particular issue are ignorant? As though all that needs to happen is some well reasoned argument be made, and then the opposing opinion will vanish like wooden huts in the path of an atomic blast.

i was raised a Taois-Buddhist but i'm moving closer and closer to just pure Gnosticism, without any Christian elements involved

The biggest problem I see with homosexuality, is the irrational anger some people have towards homosexuals.
As far as I'm concerned, no ones love life is any of my, or any other persons business.

At worst, indoctrinated ideas with that can stay with a person for life. People really have to stop messing up the minds of their kids like that.

I guess it's because there haven't been any good or rational arguments that justify homophobia or discrimination against gays. Mostly, they're religious arguments and when they're scientific or anything else, they tend to leak like a sieve.

Majority of the time , the other side chooses to ignore facts that back up a reasonable view instead they just go with what their opinion of it is based loosely on a few talking points here and there that gets repeated by all of those that shares the same view.

Problem si that the homophobic crowd ignore what suits them and choose only to answer the cheap and easy questions.

Often their opinions are based on incomplete facts and a few copy-paste answers which they then repeat ad nauseam in the hope that if they believe it and spout it for long enough, it becomes true. Religious arguments are the worst, as they ignore all but their particular church/sect's readings of the Bible and then parrot what they've learnt without any thought or real attempt to argue their case.

And if it were the case that all it takes is a well-reasoned argument, life would be a lot simpler and there would be no Republicans/religious people etc. I'm currently involved in an argument on another forum, a Catholic forum, about transsexualism and Chaz Bono. The guy I'm arguing with is so brainwashed and parroting answers, it's almost like throwing meringues at a cliff. I've tried to be reasonable but it's hard.

i subscribe now to a totally chaotic impartial non-judgmental entity

morality, law and ethics are all man-made and doesn't come from my God

The Bible does advocate, indeed order, capital punishment for (male) homosexuality.

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." (Leviticus 18:22)

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." (Leviticus 20:13)

The Bible also advocates slavery. Take your pick.

It depends on how you'd define "homophobia". Is denying homosexuals the right to marry homophobic? If so, then you are sadly missing out, because there is no shortage of logical secular arguments in this order (link)...

Opposition to homosexuality is part of a broader Conservative reaction to the "sexual revolution" of the 60s. As homosexuals can't breed, it's flashpoint between two very different views on the point and purpose of sexual relationships - that is, whether the primary purpose of these relationships is pleasure or reproduction. Does this clarify things for you?
