Haiti
I want to send out some love to those who are suffering in Haiti right now after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that has devistated a majority of the country. I believe that in general this nation is already impoverished and will have increased proportion even further.
Because they were already so deficeit, do you think that Haiti will ever really recover even with international aid? The World Bank has donated $100 million which I suprised to hear, but with 9 million residents and 3 million estimated to be affected by this tragedy, no amount of money will be enough? Has anyone thought about making a donation? I made a video on YouTube to encourage people to donate. I just feel like this relates to me as New Zealand is on a major fault line and also hasn't experienced a horrific earth quake in 100 years or so. It could have been us. |
Nice to hear you're taking initiative! Things are really bad on Haiti at the moment and while I'm sure they will be able to rebuild what they've lost, I've no real educated opinion on just how how many years that will take.

Truth be told the real tragedy of this earthquake is the fact it happened in the worst-run country imaginable, and it could never recover.

i really think the US should take the opportunity to actually get haiti up and running in any way they can. after all, the US has been one of the major players in why it has remained one of the most underdeveloped countries in this hemisphere.
has anyone seen this crazy ****ing evangelist that says that this happened to haiti because they made a deal with the devil 200 years ago? he claims this is why the dominican republic is doing so well and haiti keeps getting nailed. ****in loon |

In this school program I'm in we're actually working on a fundraiser of sorts to donate to the Red Cross to help Haiti. |

There are many scary americans :p:
I'm getting emails from Red Cross. They've set up a phone number you can call, then you automatically donate money to the people in Haiti. There's little use in me posting the number here, but there's probably one you can call in your own country. |
My entire family here in Canada has pooled together almost $5K for the Red Cross. Our government will match that amount of money so altogether the donation will be $10K.
I have no idea what it's like to experience an earthquake since we are not on a fault line. I send my love and prayers to the people in Haiti and to anyone on this forum who has connections to Haiti. |
