I dunno, what about Falwell?

I have to admit, I did feel a sadistic desire for Rush Limbaugh to die after hearing he was rushed to the hospital. I thought to myself "well god, after taking away Michael Jackson and Captain Lou Albino, you OWE me this one"

I never said that it was I thought, it was what others did. Sorry if I implied otherwise. I have no preconceptions about an entire race that I know very little about.

Did anyone else hear Rush Limbaugh's comments on Obama's response to the Haiti earthquake?

You have preconceived notions about citizens from a country you've never been to.

I think he thought Obama was using the disaster as a ploy to win over more African-Americans or something? Apparently he also thinks the US Income Tax is all we need to donate.

Last time I checked, "Haitian" isn't a race. It's a nationality, and I really don't see what makes this earthquake tragedy any more significant than issues we've all got in our own countries. It's odd to see people campaigning so feverishly for strangers who don't have any real bearing on their lives just because they've been affected by natural disasters, while the inhabitants of their own countries have been suffering their entire lives from poverty, violence, and illness. What is it about a mud-covered island dweller that gets peoples hearts bleeding, as opposed to inner city homeless we see everyday on street corners?

I guess my bottom line is this: who gives a ****?

Someone from my high school is in Haiti right now.
I really hope she's okay.
Rumour has it she was in her hotel at the time of the Earthquake.

Really?

Can you not comprehend the disparity between American "poor" and impoverished people in third world countries like Haiti? Homeless people in America typically get that way because of mental illness or drug addiction, not because they won the shit-on-your-lap lottery. Whereas impoverished people in other countries are born into already hungry families. It doesn't even begin to make sense comparing the two.

This is an issue I take up strongly with philanthropic organizations who strive to serve the local community, spending millions on very few people while most of the unlit world is without access to food, clean water and rudimentary health care.

The situation might be different if the quake struck a more prosperous nation that could mitigate the damage done to the community, but Haiti has long been a nation that suffered in the throes of poverty. The government has neither the political infrastructure nor the financial means to help the displaced people, and it's absurd to think that the situation would correct itself.
