It's a bit weird to have someone almighty try and enforce morality like thou shalt not kill and then they don't really follow it themselves.
Furthermore, most of us would say "it may be your pet, but I don't think it's right to make it suffer". We make movies like Blade Runner and AI that question the morality regarding making something that thinks it has a life and then treat it as an object which we can own. Are we more moralistic than God?

The laws created by Abraham were to found a stable civilisation, and whether or not God exists is irrelevant to that matter. The means of enforcing the law was to invoke religion, and capitalise on people's fear of the afterlife in order to impose control.

I don't think you understand. I was pointing out a possible paradox for people who believe that God enforces morality of the kind "thou shalt not kill".

Oh my god, it looks like a giant cage. When I was a lil' churchie, I thought Heaven and Hell were different for everyone. But I guess if we're all programmed to lose our free will and lick God's ass for all of eternity, what I like vs. what you like won't be a problem. |

I agree. If Paradise consists in playing the harp surrounded by winged eunuchs, then I prefer Satan's dodecaphonic Hell.

Call me crazy, but I'd take eternal joy in that oversized gamecube over eternal suffering in hell any day, but that's me. If only I believed, I'm sure I would make a good christian.

Honestly, why do people around here get such a thrill for attacking religion? It's obviously a personal choice that everybody makes individually and certainly nobody is forcing Christianity on anybody these days, ecspecially not in the U.S...

I'm not attacking religion, just some people's concept of heaven.
You're f*cking insane if you think religion of all things is immune to criticism. Just because a lot of people do it is a terrible excuse not to point out a problem I have with it personally. |
