North Korea

they are threatening us. I knew they were testing those nukes for us.

1st post before close!

sleepy jack 05-27-2009 11:48 PM

Wait what? Are you seriously suggesting a middle eastern country is being hostile towards the United States?

Darkest Hour 05-27-2009 11:50 PM

apparently nobody heard of this because it isn't posted anywhere.

Google just got 17 hits for "north korea" in 4 seconds.

Edit:
7 out of 10 MB users are still trying to locate North Korea on a world map.

sleepy jack 05-27-2009 11:57 PM

I suck I was thinking Pakistan for some reason.

You could have, semantic-wise, been right if you'd said eastern Asia, up thur in the middle-ish of the side.

Darkest Hour 05-28-2009 12:03 AM

no, korea is much more of a threat than those middle eastern idiots. I think Korea has the technology for half a dozen atomic bombs and at least one nuclear missile. I don't know alot about this though, but the news doesn't talk about it much.

Yeah but what can the United States do about it? You never start a land war in Asia!

Normally I wouldn't feel the need to even ask this question, but you are aware that there's no country called just "Korea", right? And you know that South Korea, the country that is sometimes referred to colloquially as simply "Korea", is a separate nation from North Korea, correct?

It's a classic! It also contains the often quoted line of dialogue, "You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!"

The "land war in Asia" thing originally came from something Gen. MacArthur said to JFK I think.

Wow this post is classic.

And we just need to continue what we're doing. At some point there has to be some sort of revolt, the living conditions there are absolute hell. If countries around the world weren't shipping food, etc, then it would have already fallen through. Though the one worry is if Kim Jong-Il gets desperate and starts doing crazy ****.

TheBig3 05-28-2009 11:43 AM

I think this is one issue where the American way of things pisses me off. I know we said we'd never interfere in the governments of other countries, but I feel as if they should just ship in the snipers.

The man is no good for anyone.

When was this said and when has the U.S. ever followed this policy?

its the idea behind our republic. it was the reason we stayed out of WWII for so long.

To be honest, we could have interceded far more often, in far more governments than we actually do.

Definitely, we prefer the Iraqs over the Darfurs.

IamAlejo 05-28-2009 12:06 PM

The amount of people in this thread that seem to believe North Korea is in the middle east is scary.

As for Darfur, it is likely the region will always be a cluster****.

sleepy jack 05-28-2009 12:10 PM

But Afghanistan! Oh man that area is just waiting to be democratically and turn into a free country. And it's really only Darkest Hour that thinks its in the middle east. I was posting on little sleep and up late and forgot what thread I was in. Besides if we removed China I'd be right.

IamAlejo 05-28-2009 12:16 PM

Bin Laden and Al Queda = direct threat to the US
Leaders in Sudan = not a direct threat to the US

That wasn't all that hard of an equation.

sleepy jack 05-28-2009 12:38 PM

Um that's not really what I was talking about at all. It was more an attack on people like the US President (both Bush and Obama) who ignore the socioeconomic/religious fundamentalism of the area and get all pissy when Karzai agrees to legalize the abuse of women.

darkest hour does not think north korea is in the middle east. And i am aware that there is not just 1 korea, and that it is separated north and south.

TheBig3 05-28-2009 01:26 PM

when the f did bob dole open an account on Musicbanter?

Alejo has a point though, even if it was complete bull****, iraq was based on the premise of a direct threat. And the Bush doctrine goes along with that.

So why were you referring to North Korea as just Korea?

As I mentioned earlier, Korea is the colloquial name for South Korea so it sounds like you're talking about the wrong country.

And incorrect.

North Korea is so messed up financially now I doubt Kim Jong-il would attack the United States. However there are those rumors floating around that he's sick and there's a slight internal power struggle going on behind closed curtains. Regardless of whether he's in the midst of checking out, I really don't think he'd condemn his ****hole of a country to the consequences that would happen if he attacked the United States with a nuclear weapon. I think it's just him trying to get the World's attention, that said there is no harm in being pre-cautious

i'm trying to remember what happened to the last country that attacked the United States pre-emptively. things did not turn out so well for them, methinks.

yeah, i would be much more worried if it were a country from the middle east because they will do anything wouldn't think twice about it. I think North Korea are on high alert right now expecting us to attack them though so.....
