Basically Pakistan is being invaded by the Taliban. President Zardari is asking the United States for more help (in addition to the ten billion dollars already given they supposedly used to fight off the Taliban.) Which is going to be ridiculously expensive if they can afford to pay it because there's a billion and one things wrong with that country (e.g. who knows how much of their army is sympathetic to the Taliban, they have a crumbling infrastructure, unemployment, religious extremism, all that fun stuff.) All this is problematic because Pakistan is a nuclear state.

i think they will sort it out. It's funny how all this stuff starts happening as soon as obama was elected
I wouldn't be surprised if we start bombing their asses though, hopefully all goes well and we can come to an agreement.

There's no correlation between this and Obama being elected; Pakistan has had problems for a long time. I don't know why we would start bombing them or we'd need to come to an 'agreement' seeing as I'm sure the United States doesn't want to see the Taliban get a hold of nuclear weaponry anymore than Zardari does. Your post makes almost zero sense in the context of this thread.

it was only a matter of time.
the scary shit is that they are a nuclear state in the midst of a volatile government. and the structure exists for popular support of the Taliban too, so while the government may be trying to repel them i'm not entirely sure the people care. i'd be lying if i said that a successful coup wouldn't scare me shitless.

What they need to do is Broker a peace accord with Pakistan and India. That where pakistan is putting the money, they've just realized that the Taliban could be a real threat, and the sympathies come from the mutual dislike of the hindu faith. I'd suggest we angle ourselves that way, but no one listens to me. The blowback on this one is going to be hell.
