I think feminists have gotten more comfortable with the idea of gender roles over the last 10 years or so, at least in Norway.
The truth is that many people need to define themselves, define their personalities. You can do that in many ways, like being really into religion, being really into philosophy, being a metalhead and so on. A lot of people also define themselves by their sex. How are you gonna define yourself as a man or a woman if there's no difference between the two? Other than that, I think it's natural. Women and men are wired a little differently and so on some subjects, guys lean a little to one side and women to the other. Lots of little things go together and accumulate into larger differences. Maybe not very large, but still - there's a difference. I'm not for gender roles specifically, I'm for equality but also for tolerance. If you wanna be a stay-at-home dad, that should be alright. If you wanna be a stay-at-home mom, that should also be alright. However, I think it's a beautiful thing when two people can fill eachother out in a way - each complementing the other so that they become something better when they are together. Also, I remember one lesbian couple that I knew and they very much had "gender roles" and were open about that, despite the fact they were both women.

From the modern womans view, Im going to agree with Mr Cardboard here, drop the lable..
However I will say dont forget that each gender has its own pro's and con's. They both have signifigance, and though some traits are interchangable the ones that arent are is what define us. Neither one trumps the other, since both are needed for every species (that is not multisexed) bigger picture, survival.

Of course it takes two to make a child, but under all appearances women have had the biological imperative to raise the children while the men's single innate objective is to mate with as many women as possible. While it is technically possible to rise above these instincts to get rid of gender roles, do we really want to? Sexism is almost dead anyway :\
