Yup, as I posted some pages back, according to an ongoing evaluation of the ban in Sweden, it's been beneficial in every aspect where they hoped it would help.

edit :

I'd like to pose a question, though you can think of it as rhetorical if you like. If smacks is your method of disciplining your children, what do you do if - after smacking - the child still doesn't do what you want it to?

Smack harder.

I was brought up on physical discipline. As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't reach the point of abuse it does no harm. I'm far from a violent person and it hasn't impacted me in any way. Of course, I used to walk around with a book in my pants and ended up getting twice the spankings I deserved. My dad's even used a belt.

The point of physical discipline isn't to beat your child into fearful submission, it's to illustrate a point. If you were 'brought up on physical discipline' it really can't have worked too well as a punishment.

That proves my point. If you discipline your kids with smacks and they don't do what you want, you'll smack harder. The severity of corporal punishment has a tendency to escalate over time.

It wasn't an entirely serious response. Still, what kind of punishment do you advocate?

I never said it was necessary. This thread asked if it was okay or not, and I'm saying it's an acceptable route to take in raising children because the process works alot of the time.
