He's right cory, all your points have been argued against earlier in this thread so if you want to find arguments against them, all you have to do is backtrack a little.

Also, my post at the top of this page was ironic. ;p

I think spankings give the child charecter. Now full on beat with polls and stuff nah thats just breaking them down. Now if a kid does something wrong and see's that a little pain on his backside will come if he will do it again, they won't do it.

The problem is, the way you are lining things up are flawed. The general idea of your arguement is "My parents didn't physically punish me and I spent time in prison, therefore, if parents don't physically punish their kids they will also go to prison." That is like saying "My parents gave me chocolate bars every day and I grew up to be a criminal, therefore, giving your kids chocolate bars turns them into criminal!" Go beyond your own personal experience, look at the studies, statistics, ect. There could of been many of other factors that landed you in jail. Maybe it wasn't the lack of physical punishment but the lack of being stricter parents in general, maybe it was the environment you grew up in, maybe it was just some stupid choices on your part, ect. Like the example I gave with the chocolate bars, it might of not been the chocolate bars that turned him into a criminal, it could of been the fact that his parents beat him everyday instead of talking to him.

And that's were your mixing things up. I never said it was right to "Beat" a child. and honestly it's not. People who just smile at there kids and say "oh no silly" when they draw on walls make's kids into little helliens. If you spank them on their ass, and show a little aggression twords them they will see they did somethign that was not right and if they did it again they would get another one. you can't be nice when punishing a child. A child want's someone to pay attention and be nice to them. so when you show them when they did something wrong that they will not get that "nice" out of you they won't want to do it again.

But cory, if you go back, you will see your own argument being presented and argued against multiple times.

By the way, the poll is not wether or not children should be punished or not. It's wether or not corporal punishment is acceptable. What you're saying is that kids need negative consequences for bad actions and I completely agree with that .. I think everyone does.

It's just that there are other ways of punishing children than slapping them. It seems you haven't considered that possibility yet.

Yeah but how are you going to punish a 7 year old? they are out of the "stand in the corner" age, and when you send them too there room they will throw stuff around because they are pissed. You can't ground them because where does a 7 year old go? What's left to do?

I already addressed this point earlier (as did a few others.) If you think spanking is the only answer you're either lazy or unintelligent or in boo boo's politer words "not being creative enough."

It's not the only answer. It is an option, however. If parents want to spank their kids and the message is made clear to them not to do it again, what's wrong with the parents choosing that path? If it doesn't work, try alternatives. Really not that complicated.
