Saved From Extinction? XH558- The Last Flying Vulcan Aircraft.
Please allow me to introduce to you XH558. She is a Vulcan Bomber, the sole survivor of her type; an iconic aircraft, and she last saw active service during The Falklands Conflict. Designed in the 1950's, she was the model for the technology on which Concorde is based. In 1992,by a cruel twist of fate the Vulcan was grounded and a campaign was launched to save her, but this failed because the British Govt. at that time would not acknowledge her importance and withheld any support. Finally, last year, after 15 years of restoration she regained her liscence to fly. Her short term future may have been secured, but who knows what the future holds?
Maybe this should be dedicated to all those who have fought for so long to save her, and love her so much they couldn't let her go.
