Black History Month... (single, American, Religious, quote, teacher)

Black history month doesn't serve its purpose. I know two girls who said RIDICULOUS things like, "n****** belong in white castle, not the white house!" AND WERE SO RACIST. And sent me so many texts, and when I commented on how disgusting it was - what was their reasoning? "Its how I was raised." F*ck that, you ignorant piece of ****, you should know better than that...its 2008 and you're a 17 year old girl, far removed from that racist era. What idiots....shows how much morals white catholic schools instill in their students.

I understand where you come from, people like that bother me, but don't get angry and blame religion for it. There is no doubt that religion can be used in corrupt, controlling ways, but that doesn't mean that its responsible for all of the bad in the world, and even with the bad it causes, there is still a good side to religion.

And you can't expect all racism against blacks to go away because of Black history month. There will always be racism.

Catholic schools don't have to teach any anti-racism. Not curriculum and not necessarily in the bible if Catholic schools do indeed teach Catholicism. Those girls could probably make it in the public schools of Atlanta and Los Angeles. No doubt.

You're right. I was too general. I probably should blame their teachers in that case. I heard their science teacher supposedly dismissed the theory of evolution. I don't blame religion. I find the girls themselves at fault. They're just ignorant, and sometimes religion shelters and doesn't allow people to open their eyes. I go to an all girls white catholic school. Every single one of us is sheltered.

And actually, pretty sure anti-racism is in history curriculum. I'm just sure it isn't taught like it should be.

Edit: They're also pretty ignorant about just everything from politics to the bible and just repeat what their daddies have told them.

Yeah, I knew you meant well but its easy to get angry. I would be angry if I went to a catholic school. The constnat religious structure would probably kill me. Education and religion should be seperate.

Why the **** should there be black history month? If there's black history worth learning why can't it just be in everyday curriculum? Not that I really give a ****, I've been learning the same thing in history class since 4th grade, black history month or no.

It should be in everyday curriculum, and right now at least for me, it is. Back then it wasn't. Most textbooks and teachers didn't cover it, so Black History Month was created.

What I'm seeing here is some that don't want black history month because they see the idea itself as racist. I agree here, no one specific race should get their own month dedicated to them. While it does go against that whole ideal, Black History Month serves a purpose of teaching history and understanding about the history of the blacks, but I think that should be expanded to include all races and groups. It could be a month dedicated to reducing ignorance through education.
