I personally don't think the whole "reaching across the aisle" thing is actually going to happen but I think it's great that he's trying. I definitely don't think it's a great sign that it got... what 0 republican votes in the senate? yikes.

If the Republicans want to play these incredibly political games they can. I have no reason to believe this stimulus package won't work and if it does (and I really do believe it will) than the Republicans are going to look back for their childish opposition to it. Something has to be done; the private sector can't do it and Hoover taught us all we needed to know about "letting the free market work."

Obama actually talked a little bit about how the private sector has failed us and the government is the only entity left with enough resources to pump life back into the private sector (which I think is technically wrong because Exxon posted profits in one year which were literally 3x the entire national debt... but the government is the only entity willing to help... greedy oil bastards).

What is annoying is that is that Obama is the first black president. So that means, this will be the guy that sums up all of the idiots views on black people. I'm sure if Obama screws up and fails, so many people are going to have that "black people suck at being the president" attitude because they are so stupid. And if Obama is the best president ever, I have a feeling that everybody is going to have this "Now I know whats wrong with politics! Not enough black people! Everybody vote black!"

I don't think you really understand how this is supposed to work. The way the program is going to be implemented is going to free up money to spend into the plan step by step. Its a slow process, but it pays for itself. As far as the taxation part goes I don't know what has to be said to get it through everyone's heads HE'S ONLY RAISING THE TAXES OF THE UPPER CLASS. You know the insanely rich people who control 90% of the wealth in America. The rest of America, the lower and middle class and people who need their money, are getting the tax cuts this time around. The key to a prosperous country is a prosperous middle class. Under the Republican economic plans of the past eight years that middle class has been shrinking and sliding below the poverty line this stimulus package will bring back a larger middle class which is what a democracy needs to function.
