But what exactly do you mean by "it"? Certainly a state of hopelessness is often the impetus for people to explore this theory, but most never get past the idea of intent manifestation being little more than wishful thinking; it is not. As my mom used to always say "If wishes were horses beggars would ride".

you guys are confusing me, lol
our perception of an ultimate reality is distorted. Our brains perception is only good enough to comprehend to a limit. Trying to figure out how we got here, and what we really are is beyond our level of comprehension. We can't figure out if we are a dream, it is impossible. It's just another thing to think about and never find the answer to. If we have a distorted perception of reality, then we can only hope that there is either a god, eternal life, or the life we know is actually something else much greater and more complex because we will never figure out why we are here in this life we know of now. I really highly doubt we are just dreaming of all of this, that is silly. Possible yes, but i think it is kind of dumb.

I don't think it's an important topic at all. As long as everything you experience relate to the reality that you find yourself in, it doesn't matter. So what if your whole life is a dream? If cause and consequence is natural and pain, pleasure, sadness and happiness is as well, then you would still probably rather have it good in your dream-life than suffer it. In other words, speculating that your life might be a dream is perhaps interesting to think about, but I would argue that it has little practical significance ..
Unless you wake up. And you don't know if you ever will or even if you're "sleeping", so why care about it?

The idea of it has gone through my head multiple times, although I haven't really thought of it in a long while. Most of the times that I thought about it was when I was much younger.
I found reading about NASA's guidelines to avoiding it while living in a man-made space colony, where everything is artificial and predictable. It was interesting to read something like that in such a cold, technical, almost how-to-guide manner. It would be hard to live in such isolation because you would be trying to trick yourself into thinking that the world appears bigger then it actually is. But since you know you are trying to do that, it cannot be achieved. Possibly, after years and years of isolation, holding on to the knowledge that there are uncontrollable elements beyond you may not be enough and you might go insane. |
