I've stated from the start that nobody knows what is gonna happen on that date, I believe nothing will happen because there's absolutely no evidence that anything will, and I think that's a valid enough opinion. The mayan calander starts over, whoopedy doo, by that logic we should expect the world to end every time December 31st comes around. All they did was pick a date of some significance to them (a planetary alignment) and decided that the calander ends and starts over on that date. And I guess there really are a lot of people who are too stupid to realise that these guys couldn't keep the calander going forever, their civilization didn't last, so of course their calander wouldn't. It has to start over at some point, just like a yearly calander. Nobody knows what's gonna happen on this date. And that's why I think it's all BS, if we knew for certain that this was the definite doomsday, we would at least have a vague idea of what is actually gonna happen. But we don't, because just like the book revelation and Nostradamus it's all a bunch of vague bullsh*t that people mistake for being cryptic, so any random person can twist it around to support his crazy beliefs and even make it sound plausible. My 2012 prediction is that a bunch of aliens come down to earth, and resurrect the dead, who along with Michael Jackson will perform the world's most intricately choreographed Thriller dance. The aliens and zombies will then be defeated by Chuck Norris, who will then take on Jackson (who at this point will be in his giant robot form) in an epic battle in outer space, the winner of this battle will determine the fate of all mankind. If you try to debunk this theory then you're clearly just speculating and not doing any kind of research. See what I did thur? Last edited by boo boo; 09-07-2009 at 10:32 PM. |

I think there are some real unusual astronomical occurances that will be happening in 2012. Whether that means the "end of the world", who knows? I think there is an alignment of the planets and a strong solar flare occurance. Stuff like this we have no control over, so I don't think we should waste time worrying over it (imo). Put on a clean shirt, and get on with life! Jeez.

I think the planetary alignment is the reason they chose that date but there's no reason to expect anything significant to happen. Solar storms is nothing new, and the strong solar storms that are predicted for around 2011/12 is something that is said to occur every decade or so, it's only a big deal now because of the satelite dependent technology we have now. However the idea that destroying these satelites would shut down all of the worlds power and render society completely helpless is also pretty dumb. So dumb that I expect it to be a major plot point in that sh*tty Roland Emmerich movie. |

Fun fact about planetary alignments. John Gribbin wrote a book on them called "The Jupiter Effect" predicting the end of the world...in 1983! I can't believe people still take this even slightly seriously. There's no logic to it. It's like an astrologer making claims about astronomy.

It depresses me a bit to think about all the doomsday predictions there's been in my life. This one is particularly sad because so many people are getting on the wagon. This kind of stuff used to be for religious nuts. Now it's for all kinds of nuts.
