The possibility of life meaning nothing versus life meaning something is ultimately left up to personal belief.

It's no wonder why we're tormented with the knowledge of that.
It's because we're able to be.

It's a curse if you let it destroy you, and a blessing if you let it enrich your life.
That's why people are their own gods.
They make all the decisions. Even the decisions to let others make decisions for them. It all starts with us.
Beyond that, it doesn't even matter.
We can be all the same insects battling each other, or superhuman entities at war with one another... The resistance is equal in either imagined scenario.

We're just at war with ourselves. Some of us play dirty, some of us play fair. But none of us are really going anywhere.

Damn did you steal that?

yeah they sound like lyrics or something, are they?

Freebase Dali 07-24-2009 09:42 PM

No... I just typed that from my own brain.
It's by no means an original perspective though.

^ You're very lyrical Freebase. They are fantastic words.

Haha, thanks.

I'm a writer by nature. I just wish I could speak my ideas as eloquently as I can write them. Some kind of social barrier hangup I have.

So, do you know a lot of Christians who think the rapture will happen on 2012?

What's with Christian scholars trying to set a date for the second coming, doesn't the bible clearly state that only Jesus knows that stuff?

But heh, the bible is only usefull when it makes you a lot of money.

Freebase Dali 07-25-2009 04:54 PM

I think I remember something about a particular branch of Christianity believing in rapture dates, and being super disappointed when their pastor had them all up on a hill, waiting on the date they thought it would happen... I think it happened twice, so eventually they stopped setting dates because even they realized how foolish it was. Or they decided that Jesus was pulling April Fool's jokes on them or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 2012 thing worked its way into more fanatical religious sects though.

Spot on, the bible says God's day will come as a "theif in the night", and that "no man knows the hour". Cracks me up how people who dedicate their entire lives to something can be so clueless.

But that's assuming that you believe the bible is divinely accurate.
If you don't believe that, you can't use that as a counter-argument, even though religious folks (in that scenario) contradict themselves with it.

If you do, you're being as factually based as they are. But assuming that you don't, then there's no real argument here. It's just another statement against the validity of faith.
