I don't believe that, but I think it's rational to be a little weary of people who do things based on faith rather than logic, especially those that let faith motivate every single thing they do.

And of course, the most f*cked up sh*t in the history of mankind has been done in the name of faith. This applies to the radical athiests too because being solely convinced that there is no god is in itself a leap of faith. And those people can be just as frightening, as well Nietzsche followers who want to "kill" god, or solipsists who think they are the only valid thing in their existance and therefore "god".

In short, everybody is f*cking crazy. Except for me.

That's definitely not what you said, and even if it were would be nothing to do with what I said. Well done.

Yes. And when that leads to taking the whole Bible literally and living by it they've progressed beyond "cultivating their spiritual side" and signed up for Gods Hates ***s and got to picket the funerals of soldiers.

Yes because whenever something you disagree with is said your instance reaction is to put your fingers in your ears and say "la la la I'm not listening" until that other person has stopped talking so that you're not forced into any form of meaningful reflection.

They should when they've been responsible for the persecution of millions of innocent people throughout the ages.
History is littered with the corpses of those killed in the name of religion by people who have taken the bible literally.
The fundamental problem with religion, isn't religion itself, but with the people who claim to do things in the name of God.
More accurately, in the name of their particular God.
The perfect examples of the kind of people that need to be beaten with baseball bats are, with Christianity...the Crusaders, witch-finders etc. And more recently, Islamic extremists.

For the record. I don't have a problem with religion and it's books. They serve a purpose for those wanting a guide book to their life.
I do have a problem with those who try to force that way of life down others throats and they are always the ones pointing to the bible, tut tutting and wagging their fingers...stoning...suicide bombing...homophobes etc.

And You avoided my question...again. Do you take the bible literally?

WORD.
Good POst.

I dont think im a regular kinda christian, because I do believe in Jesus, and God and the Trinity.
but, also i think homosexuals have as much right as any other heterosexual couple to be happy and should not have any rights excluded to them.
A womans right to choose what to do to her body.
If she has an abortion or not, well thats on her, and God.(No one knows what goes on in their minds or what they go thru)
Christians don't smoke weed.( I do, LOL)
alot of the really controversial issues, I'm really LIberal about.
I dont know how to explain it.

Either way, NO one really knows if there is God or not.
I do believe in him tho, so i guess that's the difference from a believer and non believer.

He has done so much for me and my family.
I am truly blessed.

yes, but don't all religions who rely on divine intervention and prophets open the door for these people to justify their actions? Worshippers have been performing "gods work" since the beginnings of monotheism, so there is a fundamental problem with these religions who use loosely defined parables to convey spiritual and moral messages.

The heart of Christianity, I believe, is to love God and love yourself. Accept and be grateful for the fact that he has made the world and your body.

So I don't think you're anything other than Christian because of your beliefs on the side, I think you're just more liberal than what many churches tell Christians to be.

Well it can certainly be noted that it's always the violent, self-righteous, finger wagging, destructive actions of the narrow-minded, (as opposed to spiritual) distinctly religious fundamentalists the stick out in the mind of those formulating opinions on a particular religion or on religion in general.
It's unfortunate and ironic that the most zealous members of a particular religion are the ones that often do their cause more harm than good and poorly represent what it means to have a spiritual relationship with a "higher power"m and while it's true that history is riddled with violence in the name of religion, I fail to see why this is always a go to for atheists and the like when the amount of charity and general good will that religious organizations have contributed in times of crisis grossly outweigh examples of violence and religious extremism.
There will always be wacko extremists in western religion, but they are the outspoken minority, the exception not the rule.

Well there are extremists in many cases.

I remember watching the news, and hearing something about a bunch of LGBTs going into a church... ranting and raving as well as throwing stuff around.

I'm taking this from memory.

The fight for gay rights is legitimate, but the church or whatever ceremony they broke into, wasn't even against gay rights.

You know?

This is what I'm saying.

Both that non-religious seemingly open minded organizations are just as capable of violence and ignorance, and also that I think it's safe to say that the majority of Christians, at least the ones I know of, are very supportive of *** rights. It's just that the ones that "make the news" are intolerant, ignorant, and close minded fundamentalists.

Exactly. They make the news because they make the drama.
