Hating something isn't caused from fear. I hate Bono but I wouldn't say I'm afraid of him.

Neurosis is also a highly outdated term that is no long in use in any medical fields because it essentially has no meaning except for secondary classification purposes and its not even seen as a negative diagnosis in psychiatry. To say someone suffers from neurosis is like saying someone suffers from simply not liking something.

Yes it is, that's a different type of hatred. Hatred suggests wishing to inflict harm (not exclusively physical) or to terminate, and the main cause of that reaction is fear, it's an instinctual chemical human process.

I totally get what you're saying, but this argument seems to be (as our was) more about the definition of racism, then where and how much it exists.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

Not necessarily, and I will explain. Going back to the deaf Canadian example we could transfer that logic here. If all of your experience with [insert race here] showed that [race] had property A and you really dislike property A than it is totally justifiable to hate [race].

If all my run ins with blacks (We'll say 200) showed that black people are always in Cadillacs and I really hate Cadillacs than it is understandable why I wouldn't like being around black people. It isn't really a fear of Cadillacs as much as just not liking them.

dig it.

I don't think those examples make you racist though.

Unless property A is their race\origins\religion\creed etc. it's not inherently racist\prejudice.

I said it once and Ill say it again. This would make sense if you were a robot or a baby...but considering you have free will and are an intelligent sentient being, you can differentiate between the black people and the cadillac...I hate mini vans but it doesnt mean I hate moms...because I choose to think.

The Cadillac was just a random trait.

If I hate Swedish accents than it is understandable that I'd dislike talking to Swedish people.

Thats still dumb, its still putting more emphasis on physical qualities of a person than the content of their character, which is being prejudiced no matter which way you slice it. Its fine, we're all prejudiced in someway, but at least admit it.
