Oh yeah, a handful of wildly successful black people with mass appeal certainly proves that there's no such thing as racism against lower class minorities in America.
And I'd like to know where you got that last statistic from, since I haven't heard anything like that said anywhere. |

savannah's comments seem completely ridiculous and inane to me, hence me thinking that the first part of this thread is ridiculous.

I also think its kinda' fukked that y'all are taking savannah's affinity for an important and historically rich era of American history and using it to accuse her of being racist. |

Well since you think Obama shows America isn't racist at all anymore I have two questions. Why do people still ask "Is America ready for a black president?" Do you think people would accuse him of being a secret Muslim if he was white? And expanding on that Muslim thing don't you think the fact people would consider him being Muslim a big deal says alot about how prejudice America is? Racism really isn't much different then hating someone because of their religious choices.

JJ has oft expressed his distaste for people that cry "racism" in the face of genuine social problems. I don't think it's our business to try and persuade him that there's some lingering racial issues in America. There will always be cynics in the world that hear nothing but bullshit when people present bona-fide problems that need to be addressed. I regret that he cannot come to terms regarding this particular issue, but I can't resent him for inheriting the cynicism of a lifetime.

Question Two: I think it has a whole lot more to do with the fact that his name is Barack Obama then it does with his skin color. I don't think the mindset (between racism and religious intolerance) is any different no, but I've never denied the existence of religious intolerance as a problem in America and elsewhere.
