13 Baltimore high schools, no students proficient in math, report says | Fox News

Based on 2017 state test scores, 13 out of 39 high school had zero students proficient in math, the report said. Another six schools had only one percent of their students who tested proficient in math.

The city reportedly starting a new math curriculum this year aimed at closing the achievement gap in addition to enhanced teacher training and partnerships that would serve students.


“There is no simple answer that will close the achievement gap for Baltimore’s students. Though we all want to see results quickly, the work is hard and will take time,” the Baltimore City Public Schools District statement said.

Except there is a simple solution. Expel the students that constantly yell and use profanity and never let anyone think. Even Baltimore has kids who will practice and study math. No one can learn math in an environment that’s as chaotic as the area near the stage at a 21 Savage concert. And it is that crazy in those classrooms. No Child Left Behind left all of Baltimore behind.

Baltimore's school system has been a joke for a long time now. Teachers are overwhelmed. Some students do manage to escape and go to college, but they're very few and they have to overcome so many obstacles. It's sad because Maryland is well above average overall and if you take away Baltimore, it might be close to number one.

Baltimore is notorious.

They can’t keep teachers there. To teach there you have to be willing to let yourself be threatened and verbally accosted all day every day. The teachers can’t do **** about it. If you did what it took to control your class you’d go to jail. Mothers with reasonably decently behaved kids often choose not to send them to school because the environment is so toxic. They round them up during the early year counts then ignore their absences until the state mandated tests. They only send truancy officers out at those times. The kids end up with PTSD and depression and ****.

I live in Baltimore so it kind of hit a nerve. The city is combined with poor people, mostly African-American, who see a life of hopelessness. Then you have who I not so affectionately call the yuppies. They pretty much want to gentrify the city for their own uses. And, of course, there is the mistrust of the cops which is what led to the riots a couple years ago. I don't know what the solution would be ultimately. Maybe the leaders (and Baltimore has some fantastic community leaders) can start with the upcoming generation. It's probably already too late for the present one.


One good thing. If you think this mayor is bad (not saying she is by the way- she's been in less than a year), you should have seen the two that preceded her.
