That's pretty much true sadly. Neither the Democrats or Republicans seem to be true believers in democracy anymore. Hilary Clinton muscled her way to the Democratic nomination and probably would have had it in 2008 if Obama hadn't been so captivating. I'm not saying Bernie Sanders would have won in a fair fight (he probably wouldn't have)but it did seem odd that candidates who would have blown her candidacy out of the water like Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden wouldn't run against her. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the Clintons had something on them.

The Republicans have been cynically courting the white vote since George Bush the elder in 1988 and what a surprise that it blew up in their face. Thus we were left with what the guys at South Park affectionately said was a choice between a douchebag and a turd sandwich. The only good thing about Trump's election is that it ended the career of little Miss Ambition. As horrified as I was about the result, there was a certain satisfaction of seeing Hilary practically sobbing with her self-serving plans being foiled.

And you're right about the second part too, Elph. If you truly believe in democracy, you shouldn't have to pander to anybody, Democrat, Republican, or otherwise
