Deadly Fires Sweep Portugal and Northern Spain
Allegedly arson. Their leader has referred to it as a terrorist act, but I'm not sure if he means that or if he's just calling arson of this scale terrorism in itself.

We were very very lucky. I kept hearing 200,000 people without power, then later 300,000, at one point 385,000, and I kept thinking "****! We're next!" But it stayed on thank the great Pixie in the sky!
Edit: Officially it's gone now, ****ed off to Scotland. Check the "Your Day" thread for pics and vids.

Good to hear that TH is ok.
Most UK cities have their local elec supply cables underground I think, so not so vulnerable to wind damage. Elec cables on posts is prob one reason why Puerto Rico still has v little power.

Yep. Mostly it was trees taking down the power lines. Not quite sure what their beef is with the power lines, but once a tree takes a dislike to you, ****ing suicide bombers have nothing on them!
I will say, our weather service were on top of it from middle of last week, giving all the details and pretty much called it almost exactly, like they could almost say hour to hour what counties would be affected. The joint task force did its job really well too. I hesitate to commend the govt but damn they done good.
