I think that's because they're stuck in a paradigm where the end game of capitalistic goals are still thought to bring happiness. Once they see that's bull**** they not only have nothing they also have nothing to shoot for. What people need to aspire to is coming to the understanding that there's no value in meaning. There's no value in finding value in anything. Their problem is they're not ready for nothingness because they never understood how to really let go.
