It's a symbol of everything in America, not just the stuff that patriots like to wank on about. If you ask them about their intent they'll say that they do support the troops, so saying that disrespecting the flag or anthem is disrespecting soldiers ignores about 75% of the situation.

That's not their intent, so pinning that on them instead of actually listening to what they're saying is pretty irrational.

It's odd that they have the anthem played before every game.

Ja, it doesn't really make sense for a national league.

I'm sorry, are you serious here?

From Military.com

Quick list of Flag Etiquette Don’ts:

Don’t dip the U.S. Flag for any person, flag, or vessel.
Don’t let the flag touch the ground.
Don’t fly flag upside down unless there is an emergency.
Don’t carry the flag flat, or carry things in it.
Don’t use the flag as clothing.

Don’t store the flag where it can get dirty.
Don’t use it as a cover.
Don’t fasten it or tie it back. Always allow it to fall free.
Don’t draw on, or otherwise mark the flag.
Don’t use the flag for decoration or as a prop.

Who cares? Real Americans don't need no fancy etiquette.
