From an Irish point of view, we hate the idea of a monarchy because a) it reminds us we were once subjects of the British Empire and b) they're a total tax drain on the public, an archaic institution that has long had its day. They have no power, can do nothing without the approval of Parliament, and still get paid huge sums of money and own land that could be used for things like social housing or projects if they weren't kicking around on it.

Also, he in particular is just typical of the English noble class: entitled, annoying and very condescending from the little I've seen of him.
