I still need to take the time to read the actual policy instead of news report summaries but I doubt their ability to craft sensible healthcare laws because I barely have faith in anyone to do that. ACA benefited insurance companies MASSIVELY btw so at least they're keeping that element of it intact.
The ACA put maximum caps on certain aspects of insurance company spending, including executive salaries. The new plan removes those caps.

I don't doubt that. The industry still doubled in value over the past six years though.

Health insurance should not be a for profit industry. Our forefathers should have socialized it a long time ago - like the post office.

Tentatively agreed.

I agree with almost all your politics. I just can't express myself correctly because I go off the deep end constantly. Drugs and poor psychiatric care.

Bassam Al-Rawi, Halifax Cabbie Acquitted In Sex Assault, Is Victim Of Racism: Lawyer

ok so like this has been a pretty hot topic of conversation in canada recently and there was a huge protest in my city today. the tl;dr version of the story is that a cop found a cab driver with his pants down in his cab with an intoxicated unconscious woman who was also half-dressed. there was no evidence that sexual intercourse had taken place, but obviously it looks quite bad to be caught in this situation.

the big controversy has less do to with this, and more with the judge who made the statement:

Quote:
Lenehan said a person is incapable of consent if they are unconscious or are so intoxicated that they are unable to understand or perceive their situation.

"This does not mean, however, that an intoxicated person cannot give consent to sexual activity,'' he said. "Clearly, a drunk can consent.''
now maybe i'm a ****ed up individual, but i think the outrage over his comment is ludicrous. there is obviously a line of being drunk and able to give consent, and a line where you are unable (considering she was unconcious, i have to believe she was probably unable but that's kinda neither here nor there.)

anyway interested in hearing thoughts on this issue

i mean i guess that's the biggest issue innit.

if we go by the first definition google gives

affected by alcohol to the extent of losing control of one's faculties or behavior.
"he was so drunk he lurched from wall to wall"
synonyms: intoxicated, inebriated, inebriate, impaired, drunken, tipsy, under the influence; More
antonyms: sober

then a drunk person probably cannot give consent. i think the line is drawn perhaps between someone who is drinking vs someone who is drunk? the biggest issue with what the judge said was not his message but his wording, or so it seems.
