This may sound selfish and privileged, but I really, really love the Atlantic Ocean right now.

No doubt.

And Mexico and Cuba are much better southern neighbors than Algeria and Libya.

Until the next terrorist atrocity starts it all over again and the process repeats ad nauseam.
I agree with some points in the article, but I don't believe in making light of the situation.

I don't see the big deal with the "cards, flowers & bears... candlelight vigils" if you don't like it, ignore it, turn off the news and listen to music or whatever. If that is how friends and family of the victims deal with the depth of their pain of loosing a loved one in a terrorist attack then let them have that. Live and let live.

I think the point is not to pass judgement on anyone but rather to point out how horrific it is that these things have become ritualized and routine. We're becoming battered into accepting it as a norm and that can be taken as a very serious indicator that we're losing. We're stuck in a specific response cycle and that response is obviously an ineffectual deterrent because it keeps happening again and again.

My southern neighbour is the US. My northern neighbour too. Actually, my only neighbour.

Really? 1.5% invokes tribal rights? This child is Choctaw? WTF is this really about?

I wasn't making light of the situation, nor did I say I didn't like the way friends and family of the victims respond to their loss.
