Because they have to echo the attitudes of their voting base. I get the whole less government thing (well, except for interstate highways and other convenient things they provide), but stuff like vaginal probes and anti-women's rights, bowing to the NRA, wanting God to intervene in policy, the homophobia, and letting the rich and corporations keep getting richer at the expense of the middle class and the environment....
