Yeah I thought that. Just not worth it, in political terms. Like taking Thatcher out after she's left Downing Street. A) what does it achieve (if you expect it to get you something)? and B) who cares? They're yesterday's news, soon forgotten and most likely all you'll do is piss off the current holder of the office. Not only that, you may (if you fail to kill them) inadvertently give them free publicity they would never otherwise have had at that stage of their life. Let them fade into obscurity.

Unless you're talking poison, and sit back in safety and watch from a distance, for a lingering death (I mean, I assume you mean like torture?) you'd have to secure them, keep them there, wait for the death to occur.
