Trump's crass attempt to lie about the track of Dorian is likely to cause him more trouble than he expected; the image of him presenting falsified out-of-date information under the official WhiteHouse title of "Hurricane Update" turns out to be evidence of a crime in progress.

At least our anger at such an irresponsible, pointless and patronising deception can be alleviated by a touch of humour as journalists have come up with the term "Sharpiegate". It'll be a long time, though, before a name equals Britain's "Squidgygate", based on a leaked term of affection between Lady Di and her lover:
