I liked the bloke too. I paid to see him on several occasions. I thought he was intelligent, I thought he was amusing and entertaining, and I thought his taste in music was pretty decent too. Over the years there has been one or two bands I've first read about via Henry Rollins, and he's written about friends bands too so I'd say he has his ear to the ground for new music.
I can only presume that witnessing a friend shot in the head with a shotgun helps to account for his attitude towards suicide, which seems to stem from a very firm pro-life perspective. I do find myself very disappointed in his judgement of those who have taken their own lives though. He shows a total lack of empathy and the fact he has suffered himself just makes that harder for me to comprehend. I wonder, God forbid, if there isnt even a self-serving, congratulatory reasoning behind it. A pat on his own back, knowing he has been there himself and come through the otherside, armed with a disdain for those who werent so fortunate.
Whatever the reason, its pretty ****ing insulting to anyone who have had their own mental health struggles, ever considered suicide, or know people who have.
