School shouldn’t be compulsory for kids any more than labor camps should be compulsory for adults

Did you find the whole school system that horrible? In my experience most problems with school stem from hoarding a bunch of teenagers together. The actual schooling could be mind-numbing sometimes but didn't bother me too much, I spent most of my school time making drawings. But of course you have a different perspective as a former teacher

One story that I may have told before but years ago there was a bad hurricane and the power and water was out for weeks and I commented on how miserable it was and a student who was really delinquent, I mean in the ADULT criminal system said it was the best time of his life because he didn’t have to go to school and went fishing everyday and caught fish that he shared with people at a time when everyone was eating mres/

but if that kid went fishing instead of school when school was open they put him in jail

it might sound like what they dont put them in jail

but yes they do/ that’s the only way they can enforce the compulsory component

Some people are doubtlessly better off without school. Still I think the government should make sure that in general people are educated, but finding a balance between that and personal freedom and needs is complicated

I always went, but I had a teacher who said that I skipped school mentally. Forcing kids to go is not that much use if you look at it that way: you can force them to go, but it's much harder to force them to participate

Get caught with half a joint put on probation/ school attendance and clean discipline gets written into it / a discipline referral is a violation / get locked up in juvie for getting written up for throwing spitballs and cussing in school while already on probation which is a violation/ get beaten up hard in juvie - then back into school with a ****ing ankle bracelet/ wander off to the river or beach / back to juvie / beaten up even sexually assaulted
