WW2 was a crapshoot. Too many different angles and interests to really insert any sort of ethical metric.

Agreed. I was talking with a friend about the ethics of war and he fell back on a sort of "sometimes you just gotta fight Nazis" attitude which prompted a realization of an increasing similarity between the two countries. I don't think it's an unpopular opinion that global tensions are brimming in a pre-world war manner either. There are a lot of the same quiet alliances that were going on back in the day as well.
