It's a pretty substantial part of his life. That's why a lot of politicians and people on both sides are praising his American values. You don't have to like the guy, but he does deserve at least some respect.

I also find it funny that he instructed Trump not to come to his funeral.

Nothing says "I have a spine" like being a war hawk enthusiastically jumping at any opportunity to send our boys to become dead men! "War hero" is an oxymoron but that's beside the point.

Not everything he did deserves respect obv. But I'm also not surprised that people are praising the good things he did and the things he went through. That's more my point. Like I said, I don't have a lot of respect for him but I respect what he did in some cases.

Are you talking about when he went into a country to kill its citizens then got captured for it?

(sorry Lisna, I know you were trying to avoid this)

Innocent young men on both sides are sent by the fat cats at the top to go kill each other, blow **** up with civilian casualties to follow, etc. It's just terrible all the way around.
You have to buy into the propaganda that dehumanizes the "enemy" before it can come to seem like there's any heroic glory to be found in war.

^ Yes, I thought that was a nice touch too. Right around the world, that's a very unusual stipulation to make about the head of your country.

^ Couldn't you just post a link, Frownland? Or are we doomed to relive all 1,234 posts on the subject?

How about Devin Nunes? Can we at least unite in laughing at his latest escapade?

It's just not surprising anymore, it seems like we pay taxes for them to be wasted with the occasional pothole repair. Without even getting into the cronyism that drives a lot of it, if I got the quotes that government officials accept from contractors and the like, I would spit in their face.

McCain, at least to me, is a really good example of why we need term limits. Dude concealed his cancer diagnosis and still served at least a year. If Trump was diagnosed with something similar, I'd say the same thing: they shouldn't be in office at all. Especially if it's brain cancer.

McCain deserves a measure of respect regardless of all of the peripheral arguments.
