I don’t know why but when your a-hole really itches nothing hits the spot like the barrel of a loaded revolver.

It's only a matter of time before someone throws a kitchen knife into a crowd.

Because guns are very hard to get in Japan, expressly for the purpose of preventing psychos from walking up to a crowd and ending dozens of lives in an instant.
Crazy knife guy on the subway slices maybe ten or so people (most just injured, not killed) before he gets kicked in the balls and mobbed. Crazy gun guy kills that many in the first few seconds of his rampage. Then he kills more. Then he kills some cops. Then he kills himself.

1. A handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task. 2. Something (such as an instrument or apparatus) used in performing an operation or necessary in the practice of a vocation or profession - hunting - target practice - sporting competition - hobby - self defense gun shop owners and people who carry around large amounts of money (to name two) are professions in California where it's legal to carry a gun on you for self defense. In the right hands guns are extremely safe. I've had mine for over 6-7 years now. First thing was I took training where I bought it. Then I had to take an extensive test to show I know all of the safety rules. Then I bought fake bullets (hard plastic) to practice at home, loading, unloading, proper handling, taking it apart clean it and just getting comfortable with it in my hand. I then had to show the owner that I knew what I was doing before I got a sign off to buy real bullets. Then went to the range a couple of times to get comfortable shooting it and practice my aim. Trust me, the range supervisor who walks back and forth behind everyone will chew you are new ass he he sees you doing anything wrong. I've seen it. They take gun safety extremely serious for obvious reasons.

Honestly if someone broke into my house with a knife I'd be more scared of them than if they had a gun. It's close combat situation, the knife can do a lot more damage without even really trying.

I think the point here, with regard to the difference between knives and guns, is that you go into a shop and buy a knife. Should anyone ask you what you want it for you can legitimately say (whether it's true or not), for chopping veggies, for cutting steak or just for the kitchen. Sure, you can use it for violent purposes, even buy it with that in mind, but that's not the only/primary use for a knife.
With the gun, your options are limited to "for self-defence" or "for settling a score" if you're particularly stupid. You can't say "I'm buying this gun to help me cut veggies or to keep in the kitchen in case I need it or for slicing bread". Just doesn't work. So while a gun may be technically a tool, so is a tank, but you wouldn't use a tank to slice up your aubergines. Well, not unless you wanted them turned to pulp.
