It's self-evident due to the ridiculously high numbers of gun owners compared to the level of gun-crime.

I was banting with Chula but you can be an idiot with a gun and not shoot someone with it. Doesn't make you an "extremely responsible" gun owner just cos you haven't shot someone.

I wasn't aware driving an unnecessarily large vehicle thats terrible for the environment just because you think it's cool is a legitimate position or hobby. And guns are just a problem waiting to happen.. So yes, in these 2 cases: stupid.

Self-evidence is more mental than gun ownership.

And at least 95% of adult Americans are idiots. Mathematically speaking, you can count on every single one of them being an idiot with a gun.

It's a mentality that is allowed to exist because it can be allowed to exist rather than what would be reasonable in any other time and place in history. TBH it's perfectly reasonable that people would be slow to adjust.
What about throughout history? Kings protecting their subjects, knights, city watch, all that? It's not new.

I'm betting I'd be too small fry for you to cough up the money for plane fare to Ireland?

if you just like guns, then that's a good reason to own a gun, but for defense it's not reliable

in the event of an assault present possibility that you just get shot with your own gun after getting an ass beating
Also you might get less sympathy in court: "He was carrying a gun, asking for trouble"?

You want gun protection.. get a full auto tricked out paintball gun and blast a motherfucker with 500 rounds in 10 seconds. You can keep the frozen ammo in your mini fridge's freezer with your ice cream sandwiches.
Now that sounds like fun!

I'd wager that the number of extremely responsible gun owners far outweighs the number of idiots with guns. You'd also be surprised at the large number of people you come across in your daily life that own a gun(s).

About a third of adult Americans own a gun.

Side note: Going to a range and shooting stuff is pretty damn fun!
Would it be correct to say (I have no stats of course so it's just a personal hunch) that a large percentage of gun owners don't carry? Leave it at home?

Tattoos don't kill people.

If someone would broke into my apartment and I actually managed to kill him it would probably cure my depression.

So funny that people who don't own guns, haven't trained with them, and in most cases, haven't ever fired one, seem to be the know it all's when it comes to guns.

I own some very sharp chef knives and prep with them often. I could easily chop the tip of a finger off if I wasn't careful. Am I an idiot for owning the knives?

I use to do a lot of woodworking using power tools that would seriously **** you up if you weren't careful. Am I an idiot for using those tools?

I drive around in a 4,200 pound SUV that could kill people if I wasn't careful. Am I an idiot for owning the SUV?

Some of you guys' logic is whacked. Bet you $100 that if we went to the range and I let you shoot off fifty rounds you'd come around. It's really fun and there's some nice positive adrenaline involved.

No.

No.

No. Well kind of, unless you need it for practical uses you should consider something thats better on gas.

I'm sure it IS fun. I lived with a gun owner, I think the technology that goes into them is pretty incredible, but that doesnt mean they should be accessible to the public. I'm also with you as far as gun control won't do much in solving the gun problems in the US.. It's still a stupid fascination.
