Speaking from a purely personal point of view as a Jewish person, I've openly admitted my heritage and I don't think Merit's treated me any different because of it. Just putting that out there.

I’ll admit I don’t know **** about this particular case but I do know, just as a general rule, a kid doesn’t escalate from no indication that he doesn’t like school to having to be killed to keep him there in one day. It ****ing astounds me that so few people question the morality of compulsory schooling and letting children have a say in the matter. Ffs, school is not for everyone. Our obsession with staying in school and drop prevention and no child left behind are all roads to hell paved with good intentions. If a kid really hates school let them do something else somewhere else. And if that’s too radical please allow more flexibility. Not everyone neads to study the STEM or STEAM curriculum. For some kids maybe “school” should mean doing things like going fishing, smoking weed, playing ping pong or video games, and/or just hanging out learning how to hang out with people. Before federal funding was tied into attendance local communities had more autonomy in making judgment calls and turning a blind eye in these matters. I’m not trying to romanticize the local. I understand that in many cases the local community is a right wing nightmare but I still think children would be much better served by a system of localized autonomy (like I witnessed in rural Japan). Let the people who actually work with the children and their parents and ffs the child as well decide on their own. The federal government making mandates for tens of millions of children they’ve never met is too much. Give the schools back to the communities.

I know, I remember someone told me about some sort of protest against the price of petrol and everyone was just going to stop and get out their cars at a certain time... funnily enough didn’t happen

I agree. If things are worth-while, you generally don't have to forcefully compel people to do them.

Also, 6 feet tall and 280 pounds is GIGANTIC for a 13 year old! If he got out of control, he could really do some damage to the other kids.

It's a shame that things turned out the way they did
