Gee, I guess we should just start considering the KKK a group of people that just happened to be one specific group who's random targets ended up all belonging to different specific groups right?

How bout Neo Nazi's or Hitler for that matter?

ProggyMan 04-12-2008 10:06 PM

People do bad things for bad reasons. They get punished for what they did, not why they did it. It doesn't matter why someone did something, and if it did, it would still be ridiculous to police it.

I'm actually agreeing with Proggy for once

It's not that ridiculous. If someone has it in them to kill someone because of their religious choices or ethnicity that's quite a bit different than some domestic killing.

I agree, but I think it's stupid and unrealistic to try and punish people for thinking something. Morally, I agree, it's much, much worse.

sweet_nothing 04-12-2008 10:12 PM

Hitler is bad because he killed 6 million people not because he tried to make a group of people extinct?

They're not being punished for thinking something they're being punished for acting on those thoughts.

ProggyMan 04-12-2008 10:15 PM

Will you read my posts? Although the act outweighs the motive I think. I'm not saying it's not worse for someone to commit a crime for racial reasons, I just don't think it's realistic of moral to punish them more severely for it. Killing 6 million people is a death sentence no matter what reason it's done for.

Sparky 04-12-2008 10:18 PM

Yeah but the people wouldn't have been trialled in the first place if they hadn't acted on those thoughts.
If you hate black people, thats, for a lack of a better definition, okay. If you hate black people, and then choose to kill a black person, then you deserve the trial. What they believe is what caused they're action, and they deserve to face the sentence for it.

If they just want to have their "opinion" nobody is stopping them.
