I was responding to this:
'Well there is always something like this, but in more severe cases racial hate is always checked out.'

if both are punished with the same sentence then there is a clear message that religious discrimination is OK.
Discrimination isn't a crime. Having a set of values that involves disassociating, discluding, distrusting, or disliking someone based on any elements of their being is fine. For instance, parse the following two sentences...

I hate muslims.

I hate people who beat their wives.

Are either acceptable, and why?

Why not? As long as you don't act on it, you're not committing a crime. If you attack a Muslim for being a Muslim then you're punished for whatever damage you do to him/her.

The few laws that apply to discrimination are all work and school related and don't apply to personal living. On my own time I can hate any subset of people I wish to for any or no reason at all. I can also down talk them as long as doing so doesn't create a situation where they could lose money. Furthermore I can deny said subset of people access to my property.

So by your admittance its okay to hate a subset of people based on a characteristic, aka discriminate against wife beaters, but not muslims. Why should muslims get special treatment over wife beaters?

we are going round in circles here.

You cannot hate a man for being muslim, god you should be arrested for being a ****ing idiot if you do, that in itself is a crime for being so stupid.

Being Muslim, there is absolutely nothing bad about that and only the most close-minded unintelligent people can make such a broad assumption that all people who are muslim are bad and that there is a reason to hate them.

On the other hand, there is a reason to hate people who beat their wives. I don't even need to explain it.

because you saying you hate all muslims is probably based off of the handful of radicals that decide strapping a bomb to their back and blowing up a mosque full of innocent people will bring them closer to God.

So simply being a muslim isn't a valid enough reason to hate someone? Why is that? What dictates validity of feelings?
