The words Islamist and Extremist are ENTIRELY, VERY different words and switching them completely changes your statement. Did you mean what you said first or was it an accident?

Well I didn't mean to imply that all Muslims hate America, because I don't believe that, so yes I used the wrong word. I just generally associate Muslim politics with extremism, since moderates really have little or no influence on middle eastern politics, its almost like they don't even exist.
I think Islamist theocracy is the biggest problem facing the middle east. All nations deserve goverment that can at least try to be objective. Last edited by boo boo; 07-04-2007 at 03:39 AM. |

Well sorry to dissapoint you, but I don't feel well informed enough on the political situation within Iraq to put in a good debate.
I just chimed in because I often see Islam or Muslim written/said when people mean to write/say Extremism and I think it's a horrible mistake that wrongly taints a religion and also wrongly taints the writer as a racist. So now that we've cleared that up.....Happy Debating!

What are you talking about? In what way is the bible sexist? I mean Jesus said love you neighbor as yourself and I think that pretty much debunks "the bible is sexist" theory alone. And how the heck are you going to make the decision that all Christians are dumb? What exactly made you point that out? Is it because you have to use a insult to sound smart so that you will have a better structure in your sentence? I will agree that most people who profess to be Christians don't open their Bible, apart from Sunday, but that is because they don't even want to follow what we are supposed to. Have you actually ever read the whole Bible? It explains that our relationship with God is to be active because the Holy Spirit is in us. In other words if we a truly a Christian then we should be reading the Bible, and we should be trying to do what he wants us to do. In Romans (or Hebrews [can't remember atm]) it says, "Faith without works is dead," which is pretty much my basis for this argument that a Christian's faith should be active.

"For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." - I Corinthians 11:8-9 "Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." - I Timothy 2:11-14 These verses make it very apparent that the man is above the woman. Also, an often removed book called Ecclesiasticus is pretty much about how much of a burden women are and how its their fault that we die. In its purist form the bible is nothing short of hate mongering anti-woman propaganda. Quote:
"If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." - Luke 14:26 So I guess that also means to hate your neighbor. Quote:

This thread needs to get back on topic quick.
While the war in Iraq is interlinked to religion, I think it best for the thread, that posters stick to political discussion and leave religion out, unless for the sole purpose of making a political point. Otherwise, the thread will spiral (as usual) into a debate about the existence of God, which is not what this thread is about. |

Its not that, there are two kinds of christians, the kind that takes everything in the bible literally and the kind that just take out the parts they dont like, I can't decide which is worse.
