UK Subs denied entry into US
I'm not a huge fan of the band. But this really angers me. The US is turning into a banana republic.

Very stupid and dangerous

Consider the news source. I avoid passing quick judgement when the source is by extreme news sources from either the right (OAN) or left sources like this one from The Guardian.
Do you believe the band was denied entry because of political statements? If entry to the U.S. was based on criticism of Trump, I feel there would be more people denied entry. |

Authorities gave Gibbs (bassist Alvin Gibbs) two reasons for the detainment: One was that he had an incorrect visa and the other they wouldn’t disclose.
As I said before, it's tough to wade through opinions with fringe news sources. I found the above quote in several articles so give it whatever credibility you want. I also found that vocalist Charlie Harper gained entry and performed at a weekend festival backed by session musicians. Obviously, Charlie wasn't bothered enough to cancel the performance. |

I do feel that people getting single source news (or single views from multiple sources) are not doing themselves any favors. I also think the UK Subs have not more than a few good songs that are over 40 years old. There is nothing really newsworthy about a festival appearance so maybe this was all a ploy to get some attention. If that's the case, well done! |

Attackng a story because you dislike the source for other reasons is not a cogent argument. But while it's hardly worth it, The Telegraph, not known for its left wing bias, also covered the story: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/...bing_reg_first Also covering the story is the Los Angeles Daily Times, also not known for its Marxist approach to reporting: https://www.dailynews.com/2025/03/21...ump-criticism/ This happened quite a bit during the first Trump term as well. Some examples: https://www.vulture.com/2017/03/sxsw...sa-issues.html So yes, there's a pattern here. And that's not even getting into the detention, warrantless arrests and denial of due process for people legally in the US. |
