The striking thing about in the discourse on Israel is how singularly absolved it is from reality checks:

There are many, many reasons to this, from the massive influx of Qatari money to universities to the resentful bitterness of a left still huffing the fumes of the dead Soviet empire to European politicians needing votes from Muslim constituents.

But perhaps there's also something more basic in the very structures of our knowledge about the world, at least according to this stunning book which I cannot recommend enough.

I do live in Israel these days. And I am extremely upset about what's going on in my hometown of Montreal, which has one of the richest Jewish histories of any major North American city.

What we see is an insane hike in violent antisemitism, which many have suspected was always the real animating force behind slogans like "globalize the intifada", "decolonization" and the rest of this tiers mondiste jihadi-friendly nonsense.

Jewish community pleads for help after shots fired at two Montreal schools

What I'm hearing from Jews in Montreal is "once Israelis sort out the mess and get Bibi out of office, we're making aliyah cause this is ****ed"

The thought of a judenrein Montreal is too much.
